"I know you, I danced with you once upon a dream." – Sleeping Beauty
As little girls most of us dreamed of being a princess in a beautiful gown with jewels and a crown. We created a fairytale image of ourselves, a beauty, as we danced and twirled and asked, "mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?"
Unfortunately most often the fairytale fades and the image we see looking back at us falls disappointingly short as we begin to pick apart the "beauty" before us.
It’s a battle so many of us face. We glance in the mirror or at a photograph and we study the image, trying to find something, anything that reveals the beauty we so desperately long to see. We look but fail to find what it is we’re truly seeking.
So, defeated we try to create a false beauty. If we act a certain way, or dress a certain way, if we do this or do that way then others will see us as beautiful. We try to create an image that we think will be more appealing to others but when we catch a glimpse of ourselves again in the mirror all that we see are imperfections, failures, and disappointments.
Will we ever be good enough in our own eyes? The truth is…probably not. We will always find fault, there will always be comparison, there will always be something that distracts from our beauty. They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and fortunately there is one Beholder who sees our true beauty.
He calls us His Beloved and according to Him we are the daughters of a King!
He sees us in a beautiful gown, with jewels and a crown, dancing and twirling but there is no need to ask, because in His eyes we are the fairest of them all!
